Hi all,
I'm just sending this to as many EON people as I can. (sorry if I've missed anyone).
The news is that we've got some upgrades to the support site that will hopefully resolve a lot of problems we've had and reduce a lot of frustration and misunderstandings. We're still a long way to go on the support site but this upgrade will give as better communication with users.
Here are the main features of this upgrade.
New Login box. It will now be very clear if a user is logged in or not. The login box says either 'Not logged in' or 'You are now logged in.' The login box is always visible at the top of the left navigation area.
Forgot your password. We used to have users complain that this does not work. This function now works. It asks you for a username or an email address and then you hit a button and it says a new password has been sent. If it finds several accounts with the same email it asks you to enter your username. If you have forgotten even this then you are asked to contact support@eonreality.com. By the way, now passwords can be anything you want as long as there are at least 7 characters, (no more non alpha numeric characters).
New signup process. Before we had problems because the process was in two steps and some people only did the first page and never the second and therefore never finished making an account and neither they or us new about it. The improvement is that its all on one page now. Also user can explain why they want an account.
Account Status. We've added a new field to our database for status. Accounts can now be approved, rejected, expired or waiting approval. Initially an account can be waiting approval. If the user is one of the non approved status then they can still send message to support staff while logged in. This allows them the chance to discuss account status issues.
Email notifications. There are a range of notifications sent now. We can change who is the user to get notifications of new accounts. This will be Linda for now.
1. Notification that account has been created but not approved.
2. Notification that account has been approved or rejected.
3. Notification to support staff that an account is waiting approval.
4. Notification to support staff of a message from user or account details updated.
5. Notification to users whose account is about to expire in 30, 15, 7 and 2 days.
6. Notification to sales staff regarding accounts that are about to expire.
7. Notification to users and sales staff when an account does expire.
Color coded Users List. The 'View all users' page lets administrators see which accounts are about to expire by giving the text a color. DemoUsers about to expire have pink text. Maintenance users have red and Administrators have purple. This means their account is due to expire within 30 days. Additionally accounts that are due to expire within 7 days will have bold text. Accounts that have expired are grey. This will let Linda plan ahead and stop people's accounts from expiring.
View all users. Some extra features of this page are search and sorting by columns. Also at the bottom of the page it says how many accounts were found. Interestingly this shows we have about 231 non expired accounts and over 600 expired accounts. Unfortuneately we still have no function to delete accounts. This page is also where you can launch into the 'User Details' page.
Logging of Account handling. The User Details page is only viewed by administrators. As well as being able to edit users personal details like name, address, company etc, its here that you can approve, reject and change the usergroup. All changes to status are logged. In addition you can add private note to the log so you can record things that may be of relevance to the administrator renewing the account etc. From this page it is also possible to send the user a message and messages that the user sends will appear in the log.
Account Details page. All users can access this page. Even non approved users. This allows them to change their personal details and reason for account and send a message to the support administrators. This page also lets them change their password to whatever they want (minimum 7 characters).
Sales people involved. Each user can now have a sales person assigned to them. There is a field for sales persons name and sales email. Initially this is set to sales@eonreality.com but Linda will be setting this field to other sales people as she approves accounts. This sales person will then get emails sent to them before the users account expires. This means the sales person can try to sell software to trial users and can insure that others renew their maintenance contracts.
Well, that's the main new functions. I'm sure there are many more functions that you would have wished there to be but we had to focus on first things first. I hope these important changes will mean users have fewer problems, creating and keeping their accounts. Next we will focus on fixing a lot of small issues and license pages. If you have specific concerns, talk to me about them. I'm going put together a new specification for AIMIT to work on as soon as possible. I will get your feedback on it soon.
Go check it out.

If any of you don't have an account or don't have an Administrator account and want one then get one now. Yes, even you sales people!
regards,
